Allied 400watt for 30$ or "True 450" for 39$?

Hey hey...I'm going to toss my current PSU because it isn't satisfying me. Specifically I can't overclock further and as I speak right now my 12v is 12.992, my 5v is 4.865 and my 3.3v is 3.28[well that one seems fine]...

actually what worries me is the 12v specifically. So I am going to pick up a new PSU in hope that the 12 stays a little closer to earth

Now Enermax and Antec are too expensive but I have heard many great things of Allied PSUs.

I checked them out right here:

Allied 400W Power Supply ATX400P4 w/ Two Fans ***AMD APPROVED*** UL, CSA, FCC Approved Power Supply...#

Allied TRUE 450W Power Supply AL-B450EATX w/ Two Fans ***AMD APPROVED good to 2200+ *** UL, CSA, FCC...

However the 400watt only has 15 amps on the 12v and the 450watt has 18 amps...

and assuming that psus are just 70% efficient...that is saying 10.5 amps and 12.6 amps for each respective PSU.

Would that be enough especially since I'm going to be overclocking?

I have only 1 Hard Drive ATM and MIGHT (maybe 14% chance) get another drive...I also have DVD + CDRW...

I do a lot of cpu intensive stuff (like encoding) that will keep the cpu at 100% for atlesat 10 hours (lol you can tell I do a lot of filtering and passes 😉 ) or so...

Should I buy one of them or not?

Because Enermax does have a 300watt PSU that has 22 amps on the 12v rail and assuming a 70% effiency we are talking 15.4 amps... Here

So should I go with the allied 400watt (or possibly even 450) or should I get the Enermax for 29.99?

While some people have noted good results from the Allied Power Supplies, I would go for the Enlight 420W unit. ($55 shipped from newegg.com) I have one and it seems to be rock solid, dual fans, heavy duty construction. Very stable on all rails, even when overclocking my XP1700 to 2.1 Ghz on a MSI KT3 Ultra2. shows 18a on the 12V rail, and runs nice and quiet. I will be ordering another one soon for my Shuttle AN35N Nforce2 motherboard and XP1700. Not sure yet if it is the spektek chips on the PNY ram or the 320W generic cheap power supply, but my system isn't stable at 166 Mhz or above fsb. I am hoping the new power supply will cure the problem, but it probably will require higher quality ram, too. Good luck.

Allied is a trusted and stable brand to go with, so I'd spend the extra 9.00 and get the 450.

Ditto

i got an Allied 450 psu works great, and nice and quiet, havnt had a single problem with it and has accurate voltages.

so the low power provided on the 12v rail doesn't mean much? hrmm...

If I just get that answered I beleive that'll be enough to satify me :music:
