Allergy Free Cat in 2007

So I'm watching CNN this morning and House Call is about allergies.
They say that in 2007 a genetically engineered allergy free cat will be available for sale at $3500 (yikes)
I googled it and came up with an older article: link
pretty interesting (I'd never pay $3500 any pet though)

You dind't click the link did ya?!? 😛 No, the cat doesn't produce the protien that causes the allergy.

Neat.....

I wonder how long until it's genes have bred far enough into the normal cat population that all cats are allergy free, or near....

They're trying to prevent that by only selling sterile (neutered/spayed) cats. One of their breeders would have to get out.

Hmm, weird... Why exactly? Do they think the new genes could be detrimental to the normal pet population?
