My girlfriend has this nasty allergy too fake jewelry. As a result, she breaks out badly when she wears watches with stainless steal backings. Unfortunately, just about all watches have a stainless steal backing. Anyways, you guys know where i can find a hypo allergic watch in the boston area or on teh internet that will not break the bank?

Titanium would likely work well.

I had a titanium earring for quite a while after having severe difficulties with sterling silver.

Had no problems whatsoever with the titanium.

hmmmm, I thought titanium would do the trick, but where can i get a watch with a titanium back? All teh watches i found had stainless steal backings. It would be nice through if she could have a nice watch with a leather strap.

How much was the titanium earring? Where did you get it from?

Stainless steel or titanium are both non-reactive (which is why they're used for surgical pins and such). Whatever's causing the reaction, it's not the stainless. Is the band she's currently wearing leather?

FWIW- Festina makes some Ti watches that aren't outrageously expensive if that's what you're after.

Festina Ti watches.

That is what I thought too, but the backing of her watch is stainless steel. You think that it may not be 100% stainless steel? I know it is not her band because teh rash she gets is where the backins was on her wrist.

edit, thans for the link, but $165 is a little too much. I saw this company call europia, but i have no idea where they sell watches.

Might just be that she's getting her wrist wet when washing hands or sweating and the watch just makes a nice warm dark place for funk to grow. I'd suggest she not wear the watch for a week and see if the area clears up. Also, disinfect the watch before she starts wearing it again so she doesn't re-innoculate the area with whatever she's got growing there.

It is possible to react to stainless, it does contain nickel.

From what I could find, how much nickle they contain varies by manufacturer and (you're correct) could cause a reaction whereas surgical steel doesn't.

So maybe a nice Ti watch as a gift for her? 🙂

I've never tried stainless jewelry, after the incident with the silver I've used only titanium and surgical steel.

Haven't had a problem with either.
