Heck, I got a new Compaq 101-key keyboard made in 2002. Should tell you smth. Of course, I didn't want to get a 101... But it was all the webshop could offer in respect of Compaq keyboards...

I still like my Dell Quietkeys. Usually pick them up brand new for $5... :)

It's all about the feel of they keyboard. The original IBM keyboards are loud and tactile. They'll keep your roomate up at night, but my fingers ALWAYS know when they've hit the key. As the author said, I can type a whole lot faster on these keyboards because of the feel.

And they make one with an eraser nub mouse! :)

*sniff* it's the little things in life that bring such joy...

I currently own many MS ergonomic keyboards due to my wrist problems. Now, if someone would build an ergonomic keyboard with the feel of the old IBM keyboard, that would be great. Especially with all the multimedia buttons on the top.

You won't get the multimedia buttons but somewhere out there, there is an Omnikey Evolution with your name on it.

Thanks for the link. I have tried those before, but they just didn't feel right. the split in the keys was just too wide.

I may contact the company listed in the article and see if they can do a retro fit.

Oh, I see. I hate soft keys, too. I have a Mitsumi keyboard (104) that is firm and a bit louder, but I use the windows key a lot.
I cannot empathize over the nub mouse, though, I *hate* those things :p

Good thing about this is that with the loud clicky sound, you sound a lot more productive to your coworkers. (and a lot more annoying)

I just sent the company an email asking if they can do a retro fit of my MS Natural and Natural Pro keyboards. What would be evne greater is if there was a way not only to retrofit it, but also if there is a steel encasement for the actual keyboard, thus turning it into an ergonomic "Clicky" keyboard. :D

That actually is a good deal. The original keyboards sold for $100.00 back in the late '80s. I've had a few over the years. My son won't give his up, despite getting keyboard error messages at bootup once in a while. I've got at least one more on the shelf that is acting flaky at bootup. Maybe I could get these guys to recondition it. Actually, $50.00 for the new one would be smarter IMO.

I just picked up a couple IBM Multimedia Keyboards at OfficeMax on closeout for $10.00 each. Not nearly as nice as the originals, but a damn good deal if you can still get one... or two!

Heck, I just bought five IBM Model M's from a dealer on eBay. About killed the mailman to walk the box up to the door (loved the writing on the box HEAVY!!!) Came to like $50 with shipping, some guy in Florida. Not going to do an add for him here though.

Windows key - don't have it, don't want it. Got it on my wireless KBs, hate that thing.

Just hoping those $20 PS/2 to USB converters work fine cuz while my next motherboard may be 'legacy free', my keyboard draw never will be! :)

Some of you EE geeks on here need to design a PS2 wireless adapter. Something you can plug legacy mouse and keyboard into and make them wireless. That way, the old clicky keyboards can be used well into the future. Thus keeping the feel of the old stuff around for a while.

Warning: you have to be careful using these keyboards or else you might type too fast.

this one & the one with the huge enter keys were the best ever.
because of the speed you could attain & the loud feedback they were
perfect when you had an officemate you couldn't stand.

I think I still have one of those in my attic. I LOVED that keyboard. For $30 I will probably get it refurbed. Wow.
