I think the guy deserved the beating that he got. But there is a line between getting the suspect under control and getting retribution, and it looked like those cops crossed it.

(I don't have a problem with the use of the taser though)

I'd disagree with that. It looks to me like the cop that came from behind got a couple strikes with his baton, and then tried repeatedly to take the perp to the ground. The cop who got attacked didn't use a baton, and mostly threw punches, and one kick to the nuts (which still didn't drop the perp)

Note that I'm usually one of the anti-police people

I think that the cops used enough force to subdue an obviously attacking suspect and only fried him once to incapacitate him without going overboard.

They didn't continue to pound on him after he was down or cuffed. No discipline should be given in this case.

I'd even say they should be commended for using the proper amount of force (although that wouldn't speak too highly for other police)

I think they are just good cops who know what they are doing.

upon further inspection the attacker seemed to be weaving a bit when he was talking to the police at the beginning.....my guess is that he and his gf were having a party with Al K. Hol that got a bit out of control and old Al gave him the courage he needed to attack a police officer.
