TORRANCE, Calif. -- Honda has issued a voluntary recall of nearly 500,000 automatic transmission Honda and Acura models to repair ignition switch interlocks.

The system is intended to prevent removal of the ignition key unless the shift lever is in the park position. The company says it may not work properly.

The recall includes some 1999 to 2002 Honda Accord models and all 1997 to 2001 Prelude models. Some 1999 and 2000 Acura TL sedans are also included in the recall.

The company said 11 incidents related to the defect have resulted in minor property damage, but no injuries have been reported.

Honda said it will repair the defect free of charge at authorized dealers when parts become available.

take that all you japcrap fanboys, go buy a quality american vehicle

This won't make the car spontaneously burst into flames like some of the Tauruses in the mid 90's were prone to doing.

It's not cool. Using the word Jap shouldn't be allowed.

It's a word, deal with it. Or ban white boy, cracker, beloved patriot etc.

Are you suggesting that we allow the use of the n-word on the forums and elsewhere?

actually, it's not a word, it's a term used in a derogatory manner for the Japanese...and while i'm not saying ban these words, it is highly unethical, however to use it...

I wouldn't say "highly"...I mean, it's certainly nowhere near as bad as killing someone or stealing thousands of dollars.

Japanese cars are sh1t compared to German cars. They are small, underpowered boxes compared to BMWs, MB and of course porshes. J.C are definitly more reliable than American built cars, but hey at least you can sit in an American car comfortably.

Compare apples to apples. Most Japanese cars are in the sub 25,000 category. If you want to compare sub 25,000 german cars, start comparing Jettas to Accords or Camrys.

Well, for the price people are paying for them, I hope they're better than Japanese cars.

Oh by the way, it's Porsche.

Infiniti G35x/FX45
Toyota Avalon (around 30k)
Lexus RX 330/ES300
Acura TL/RL

off the top of my head are way above 30k.

Yeah, Audi's/VW's tumbling reliability, BMW's/Benz's sky high repair/insurance rates...what's not to love about german cars? True, they're quiet and solidly built, but other than that you can't compare German cars to Japanese, all we get here in the states for German is luxury cars (save VW). Oh and speaking of which, VW's base crap 115HP 2.0 is bested by just about any Japanese "underpowered box" :) And if you want to leave VW out of this, you can't get into any other German car for under 30k (unless you're looking at the C230 or something, which isn't even as strong as an Acura RSX-S) and for 30K, there's not really a Japanese car that's "underpowered" at that price point. And at that point you can't afford a BMW or a Benz that will run with a 270HP Acura TL or a 260 HP (soon to be more this coming model year) G35.
