I got no opinion on this since I'm Canadian.... but I had to use this here:

Horst: We Germans aren't all smiles und sunshine.

Burns: Oooh, the Germans are mad at me. I'm so scared! Oooh, the Germans! Uh oh, the Germans are going to get me!

Horst: Stop it!
Man 2: Stop, sir.

Burns: Don't let the Germans come after me. Oh no, the Germans are coming after me.

Man 2: Please stop the `pretending you are scared' game, please.

Horst: Stop it! Stop it!

Burns: No! They're so big and strong!

Man 2: Stop it.
Horst: Stop it, Mr. Burns.
Man 2: Please stop pretending you are scared of us, please, now.

Burns: Oh, protect me from the Germans! The Germans...

Horst: Burns, STOP IT!

Haha just replace Germans with Indians.

I think the majority of the "savings" associated with outsourced "bpo" is that many people simply don't call/give up/or work harder at not trying to get an answer from some Indian who can't really communicate with you.

I think that they should make some more "buy american" logos which label a product as not having outsourced customer service. Hell, it's similar to how I think cds with copy protection should be reqired to have a logo (as obvious as the parental advisory stickers).

I fail to see how outsourcing Customer Service is any different to outsourcing manufacture. A couple of centuries ago, most of the manufactured goods you bought would have been made locally since transport costs were too high for simple goods like shoes or clothes to be shipped in.

It is almost inevitable that the cheapest source of labour will be used and with recent advances in telecommunications it's now feasible to use labour in the second and third worlds for CS. Do you refuse to buy goods manufactured in taiwan and korea? If not, why would you refuse to buy from a company that outsources support as well as production?

The outsourcing of service is bigger in the minds of most people because it's something happening now, the results of which are more obvious to us. Outsourcing of manufacture is done happening; it's history. Few people are or know someone who recently lost their manufacturing job to outsourcing.

I buy American service and manufacture when I can. Obviously not always possible (indeed only rarely if ever possible with some things, like electronics, etc), but I'm not fanatical about it - I have no problem buying computer components assembled in Malaysia, Taiwan, etc... I have nothing against Indians or anyone else, just would like to see a self-sustaining model rather than the current general philosophy of screwing the future of my country by its own citizens for a quick buck. They probably pay "efficiency experts" (ie. people who get paid to ruin others' lives) more than they save outsourcing anyway. It's utterly disgusting.
