All you digicam people, can you help me with this one?

What is the difference between the Canon EOS digital Rebel and the 10D? My dad is looking for a camera to take pics of his puppies. He breeds Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and he needs something to take good pics of them because they're always moving around and playing. He says he likes speed and compositional freedom. He has a sony F717 right now, which he says isn't doing the job very well.

I think you should look into something cheaper if your only going to be taking pictures of your puppies.

Sorry, I meant to say he breeds them, and buyers often times make the purchase without seeing them in person. So the buyer likes to have the best idea of what the puppy looks like, seeing as how mommy and daddy are AKC champions with well established bloodlines. With a high dollar dog purchase, the buyer likes to have a good idea of what they're getting.

How about the Canon EOS 1D? It's a 4.2MP professional SLR, and it's exceptionally well suited for fast pictures like sports or nature photography, which seems to fit what your Dad needs. There are several for auction between $1-2K. A friend is buying one, and I did some research on it -- sweet system.

The Sony is fast for a consumer digital camera (I use one), and if your Dad needs a step up AND it's for business purposes, there's no sense in stopping short of the best. Don't let the megapixel rating fool you because the sensor on the 1D is huge and takes amazing shots.

Just a thought. Not sure if the 10D would be a better choice or not. I'm not an expert just an interested newbie. 🙂

BTW, Ridgebacks are wonderful. Our pup is a Rhodesian mix (pound rescue), and she's the best dog anyone could hope for. She's proven that with our newly adopted 13 month old daughter.
