I've got a Corolla 1997. I think it's a 1.6L only about 100HP. It's got 140,000 miles on it.

I still need to do a tune up and check the transmission which I'm pretty sure is a bit F-d up.

I was thinking about maybe buying a better engine. I heard there is an engine for this car that's a 2.0L which would kick butt.

And then if I wanted, I could add a Turbo Charger on it and make it quicker than most Audis/Volkswagens on the streets.

Problem, I don't really know how much a Turbo Charger goes for.

Bigger Problem, do you think that the Body of the Corolla will last a much longer time?

I don't want to be modifying the car and then the body and stuff dies on me.

hi, I had a '97 corolla. It's not worth it. engine swaps are too much money not to mention too much trouble. Sell your car and get a civic if you want a quick car. It'll save you not only money but a headache too.

That said, the supercharged mr2 engine does fit in that car.

No way superchargers suck. I'm not paying for Higher quality gas than regular. I don't think it's worth the money.

The only way your Corolla is going to go fast is with a rocket propelling it. Off a cliff. Into a bottomless pit.

alright, I am gonna be serious. I think some of the turbo toyota I4s do fit. I read about some guy with a turbo corolla than runs like 13.9 or something, same generation as yours.

That being said, unfortunately no one will respect you if you fix up a corolla. :p

I don't want it to be a racing car.

I just want it to be faster and for it to last longer in my hands and I can do that with a new engine.

Do you know how dangerous it is to have a car that accelerates like extremely bad smelling crap. The is car is the definition of slow.

sorry, let me rephrase that.
"buy a civic and spend the money you were going to spend on an engine swap and get a turbo. there are so many for civics that you'd get a cheap and reliable one"

well what do you think would be less of a hassle? swap in a 2.0l engine and then turbo it? or swap in a factory supercharged engine?

That topic title reads like a Monster Garage tagline.

As for your car, that's a lot of miles... Maybe you should hold out until you can get a newer one?

If you even THINK about stealing one of those rare-as-hen's-teeth supercharged MR2 motors for use in a non-MR2, I will have to personally track you down and brutally kill you. Then take the engine and put it back in an MR2 where it belongs.

To the OP: Yeah, of course the body will last a long time. However, don't even bother souping it up; it's a waste of money. Corollas are meant to last forever as reliable econoboxes...if you want a fast car, get something else.

lol, I didn't notice that post earlier, that guy has a lot to learn. If you get a turbo you will need better gas also.

If he's worried about the difference in cost for better gas, he'd probably better off not touching anything under the hood. :D

Yeah, I just found out a Turbo Charger is the same as a Super Charger. Hmmm. Anyway, I'm fine with a 2.0L engine, but not fine with paying Premium gas prices where the difference from regular is half a dollar, that is some crazy F-ed up crap.

Forget the Chargers.

Who did you find that out from?

They lied to you. They are 2 totally different beasts.

They're both forced induction, and they both will require higher-grade gas. That's all the OP cares about. I'm sure the technical differences would be lost on him.

From what I read, they do the same thing, but through different approaches, but in any case...

I don't think toyota ever made anything NA, or runs on piss gas, worth swapping into that car. Unless you do nitrous, turbo or SC, all of which will basically need premium, that car will never have any hope of being even quick.
