I am looking to take the Mrs. somewhere this coming 4th of July weekend. I live in Dallas and want to get away for about 3-4 days. Can any of you recommend me a Bed and Breakfast in that area? Is the Ouachita National Forest worth going to this time of year?

Your best bet would probably be to start looking in Mena, AR which is the largest town in that area.

Camped there in the fall (ONF) a few years ago (on the OK side) and it was beautiful with the fall foliage, free firewood, great campsites.

Mena probably isn't a good idea right now, they were hit pretty badly by a tornado in April and probably still cleaning up. Info and pictures here: Mena Tornado

Then again, if any B&B are open there now, they could probably use some business...

I don't recall any B&B's in the area, but there might be one in Hot Springs, which is about a 30 minute drive away.

You might consider the Shangri-La Resort, a Motel/Cottages Fishing and Boating camp in the Ouichita Forrest.

They have a Cafe' that has some suprisingly good items, and their Pies are a legend there.

Our Daughter had her wedding there, and we went back there last September when we had to evacuate from New Orleans for Hurricane Gustov.
