A friend of mine has a computer with nothing but usb ports for the keyboard and mouse. That's right, NO OTHER PORTS for input devices. He received this computer from a friend of his who did a clean install of windows before giving it to him. The problem is that when windows loads it detects the usb controller and asks the user to "Click ok to install drivers". Of course the mouse and keyboard don't work until the usb drivers are installed. The question is, how do we get over this problem. How can I get the mouse or keyboard to work so that I can instruct the computer to install the drivers necessary for the mouse and keyboard to work.

Wow, that's tricky.
I see two options, only one of which I'd recommend.

The messy option is to put the hard disk in another computer that has at least the same USB controller and everything else as similar as possible to your friend's computer, except that it has AUX inputs for keyboard and mouse. Install only the USB drivers, and then put the drive back into the original computer.

The easier and less risky option (recommended) is to not use Windows.

I thought of the messy option, but I don't think my nforce2 MB is going to have the same usb controller as his intel MB. I may try it anyway, but I would like to see how many other solutions I can come up with. I'm afraid that I'll install the drivers and get it working on my comp only to have his computer find it necessary to redetect the usb controller. Not using windows isn't really an option because he's going to want to play games that only work in windows.

when you do the swap do it in safe mode
it'll load generic drivers
install the usb drivers
swap the hard drive back to your comp
windows finds the drivers
your up n running

its worked for me before on a Nforce one MB that had bad keyboard & mouse ports
