Bite your tongue.

The last thing you'd want is Olympics in the USA. Digger Dick Da Mayor ("I'm not an Idiot, I just sound like one" aka King Richard the II) wants them in Chicago in 2016 ... I'll certainly do my part to do whatever I can (legally) to keep them out.

Just another black hole to throw money into for nobody's benefit but Da Mayor's.

hmm...lots of China hating going on in this thread. Well, just want to point out that there is a difference between Chinese communist government and the Chinese people. Since China isn't a democratic country, Chinese government don't necessary represents chinese people. Sure there are lots of crap Chinese government is doing, even Chinese people try to stand up against it from time to time. But if the West don't differentiate Chinese government and Chinese people, and do stuff that slap both on the face, like boycotting the China Olympic, the only thing you will accomplish is give Chinese people more reason to stand with the fvcking communist government to fight the big bad west. Basically like what happens in Cuba.

So I guess it's up to the West if they really want Chinese people to learn more about democracy through trades, sports and other exchanges, or piss off the Chinese people so they have no choice but support their communist party.

the average Chinese person doesn't give a damn who's in charge, as long as it doesn't affect him or her making money. As long as Chinese people are getting rich, they don't really care who's in charge. they're more interested in making money than voting for their leader. Hell if they can make money by selling their vote, they'd gladly do it too.

Yeah, so I guess over throwing Qing Dynasty never happened, kicking Chiang Kai-shek and his corrupted KMT to Taiwan never happened, and fighting Japan and dying by the millions never happened. All Chinese do is sit there, take what they can get and as long as they are fed, they don't care who rules.

We do have a strong history of exchanging one corrupt government for another.

That basically applies to all average people of this world. The average person obviously wants to be left alone, make a good living, and carry on with their life.

Wikipedia reminds us that US olympics have been boycotted before (and that led to a grossly inflated medal count for the USA contingent).

14 Countries took part in the Soviet led boycott of the 1984 Olympic Games [2]:

Afghanistan
Angola
Bulgaria
Cuba
Czechoslovakia
East Germany
Ethiopia
Hungary
Laos
Mongolia
North Korea
Poland
Soviet Union
Vietnam
Iran and Libya also boycotted the games, citing political reasons, but were not a part of the Soviet led boycott.

Putin having a Russian boycott implemented in the near future would not surprise me in the least.

That wasn't a boycott, that was to prevent their players from defecting to paradise from their respective hellholes.

wrong. The US has the highest per capita imprisonment rate in the world (roughly 3x that of china). Most people in US prisons have never been convicted of a violent crime. The prison industry is a highly profitable privatized industry with an enormous fiscal cost to taxpayers, exceeding that of what they said the Iraq war would cost.

If the US were comprised of passive Asians, it would have the lowest per capita imprisonment rate too.

you missed the as long as they are getting rich part. they kicked the KMT out because the average Chinese wasn't getting rich, it was a bunch of corrupt few. And the Japanese were killing left and right so obviously if you're dead you aren't getting richer. And how long did the Qing Dynasty last? 250 years? Thats a lot of time sitting on their butts doing nothing. and who overthrew them? was it common Chinese people? or powerful Chinese warlords splitting the nation apart?

Yeah but the Qing went through great strides to let the average chinese person live a Confucian lifestyle. The Qing dynasty and existing Chinese state was never geared towards the concepts of "nation states" competing on an international scale emphasizing things like greed. That is not to be rosy about the Qing per se (far from it), but there is a reason it doesn't exist anymore. The system was a massive welfare state that dumped countless funds into poor areas (not b/c they truly loved the poor...but to maintain their own power because angry poor people creates problems) and that ultimately doesn't work well when you have other countries with massive weaponry.

And being honest......VERY FEW CARE about what is going on so as long as they get rich. This isn't exclusive to Chinese people. This applies to anyone. Come on look at the US! Look at how we got taken into Iraq, how we were diverted from afghanistan, how we allow our foreign policy go to Shit, how we don't care about all the corruption going on etc etc. If, as a WHOLE, we truly cared we would not have let so many things happen. This internet forum doesn't count or represent the average american. The average American cares not because no matter how bad life is...you always have some kind of car to drive and live in some kind of apartment and get food even if its McDonalds. You maybe making ends meet just BARELY, but its better than living in areas where they CAN'T make those ends meet.

I admit to openly hating the Red China government. Nearly every policy practice it takes, from degradation of the environment, to slave labor in prisons, to frequent imprisionment for political divergence, for its war of occupation of Tibet, etc., are just dead wrong. But its a huge jump to equate that to a hatred of the Chinese people. Frankly if I was some sort of xenophobe I'd probably be a lot less passionate about the blight that is Red China.

Incicentally their prison slave labor is not job training or anything like that. It is long brutal hours of menial labor at no wages. You are working to pay for the costs of the government imprisoning you because you disagree with official policy.
