All these studies about TV and children leaves me with a question

When they say these kids are watching too much TV and it affects the development, what kind of shows are they watching?

Are they watching junk or are they watching something educational? Are they watching trash or are they watching something culturally enriching?

I'd like to see them do a study with a group of children that watches whatever, a group of children that watches nothing but educational/culturally enriching programs, and a group of children who watch what would generally be called junk.

Just would be interesting to see what the results are since you always hear that television is bad for kids. Wouldn't that depend partially on what the children are watching?

I think they are mainly talking about the shows that children shouldn't be watching in the first place. I doubt that educational shows or shows aimed at their age range could be damaging to children. It would be interesting to see what the results would be.

Yeah, that's pretty much what my son watches. Wiggles, Blue's Clues, Dora the Explorer, Bear in the Big Blue House, JoJo's Circus, Sesame Street, and VeggieTales. He watches a little in the morning while we are getting ready for work and school and maybe half an hour to an hour at night.

same with my almost-4-yr-old daughter. she like Dora the Explorer now, too. they do counting and different cognitive activities on that show, so i know she's learning something. i have the tv on a lot, but there's usually something else she'd rather do, so she turns it off a lot :frown:

wwaaaahhhh...my 4 yr old wont let me watch TV
