it's a simple mod of the wires for now. although i have no intensions on going further.

plans:
  • remove the superfluous connectors (2x2 12VDC, 1x6 "server" plug)
  • shorten existing 4 pin molex wires
  • organize the wires with sleeving
  • customize the 4 pin molex wire connections with removable cords

what i have purchased:
  • Y extensions (instead of just extra hookup wires)
  • extra female housings and pins
  • cheap ass crimp tool from radioshack (difficulty locating a good one locally)
  • cheap ass pin extractor from radioshack (where else was i gonna get it locally)
  • heat shrink tubing from SVC (3:1)
  • flexo pet from SVC, 1/4 (for the molex) and 1/8 (for some fan wires)

thats actaully a really good idea, i would do it too if i had the patience (and know-how 🙂)

it's just manual labor for the most part, and not getting the wires mixed up 😉

there will be pix.

i am not the first guy to do it btw, not even close.

pin extractor? needle-nose pliers, small screwdriver, even a fork would do for that 🙂.
Otherwise, good luck!

Sounds like a few hours worth of labor to me (at least if you're slow like me.) 🙂 Good luck!

i am almost done with the project, and i wont be finishing it soon...

here are some things i have learned:
  • good tools are a god send, spend the money
  • good tools are hard to find
  • internet is a good source for good tools
  • good tools are hard to find on the internet
  • make sure you know what you need, and buy more than enough
  • crimping still sucks
