I knew it was out but just noticed it on the windows update page. What do you all think of it and what has it done to your systems? (hopefully not make them fubar)

i was skeptical at 1st and didn't want to use DX8 cause a lot of people asid it dropped their benching scores pretty badly... and since 3dfx doesn't even have win ME drivers out for my V3 3500, i was pretty sure it wouldn't support DX8, however, i gave in and had to give it a go... it worked well for me = ) !!!,, it upped my 3d mark scores by roughly 200 3d marks!!! i was getting ~4650 before DX8, now i'm getting around ~4888...so thats a plus one on the "for DX8 side"... he he

DX8 kinda made my graphics looked crappy. The speed of games didn't change but sometimes the texture would go all weird on me. I'm using a Geforce 2 GTS not overclocked. I even uninstall the damn thing to use DX7 again!

DX8 works fine for me, can't say that I notice any difference though.

DX8 is ok so far for me. I saw no improvement with 3d mark, but I didn't lose anything either.

If you do a search for DX8, I'm pretty sure someone posted a link to a way to remove it.

I heard the bad stories, so I'm hesitant to upgrade. However, it appears the MechWarrior 4 demo "requires" it--that's probably going to make me upgrade. Though that's just like M$, forcing another product on you when you want something else.

My system is still rock stable however there are no games yet that take advantage of DX8,but so far no problems gaming wise.

🙂

It is like wearing a level IV armor, feels good for knowing that no pistol/submachine gun bullets can hurt me, and sometimes may get scratched when getting hit by high power rifle/sniper guns.

Its only good is, future-proof.

Mech4 forced me to install it in win2k, but I haven't run into any adverse effects yet.

If decide to try out DirectX-8...

Here is an excellent program DirectX Buster

Use this program to remove DX8 so you can install DX7a again...

There are simply too many people posting problems with DX8, in the DirextX newsgroup for it to be a fluke. I can tell you it screwed my system all up, but now i am back to DX7a and all is well again...

it's alright. it did fix that anti-aliasing problem in realmyst demo i was having, which was the textures weren't blending when it was enabled. other than that, nothing really. i think we have to wait for next gen gfx cards to come out before we see any differences, and games that support them.

Everything seems OK except for the fogging in the Sacrifice demo--all the textures turn sahdes of blue. Removing it clears the problem, though I don't know how much of a performance hit I'm taking because of it.
