bump to the top, which drive is the highest quality out of the bunch.

From what i gather, if you get a lite on or a nec your good. I used to think sony would be the way to go, but have never heard it recomended.

EDIT: i'm also considering getting a dvd burner, good idea for a poll.

I didn't see TDK on the main page, so it didn't get added. I could add it if you wish....and why are you in the tub in the middle of the day?

The one you should get isn't even on your Poll

Get the BenQ DW1640.

Trust me, of all the latest burners, it is the best. I've done all the reading, and have actually tested three of them myself. The NEC, the Lite-on and the BenQ. The NEC ND-3540 just isn't as good as the 3500 and 3520 was. But it might become just as good with hacked firmware, which is what makes most of NEC's burnders so good. Even read Anand's review.

EDIT:

$43.99 Shipped @ the Egg

Its sold out most everywhere else, I think eWiz still has some. NewEgg just got more so thats why I checked and posted. This Burner has been selling like hot cakes, NewEgg has sold out 2-3 times in the last month that I have seen, and most everywhere else too. That should speak volumes.

wow...i would have thought Lite-ON would win, but NEC seems by far the best. I'll loook at the BenQ one too, but I'm more likely to stick to one of the top 4 just b/c of name....I'm lame like that I guess.

Go over Here and read which drive everyone prefers. NEC held the crown for a long time, since the 2500 all the way up to the 3500 and maybe even the 3520. But with the 3540 NEC has dropped the ball. It probably will be a good burner once the same people hack the firmware, and allow for bitsetting among other things. Which, honestly, the 3520 and 3500 weren't the greatest either they just had a HUGE following and had a lot of people tweaking the firmware and so on and so forth.

Why not just read this?Do you not trust AnandTech reviews? Tested burn quality on lots of different media. The BenQ won in that review WELL over the NEC which didn't even come close with a lot of the tests. The BenQ won on every other review you can find on the net as well.

People BLINDLY suggest the NEC because they were the best for so long and have no idea WTF they're talking about. I buy a new DVD burner almost every time they release a new one, its a fetish of mine. But do whatever you want.

Get the BenQ. You have all the proof you need. You should know better than to stick to something just because of the name.
