I run one of the AT pic hosting services, and helped with code for another, but I've been playing with flickr lately, and it has pretty much the coolest interface I've ever seen for a web application. I think flickr is currently the site to beat for image hosting, and it's gonig to take a LOT of work for anyone to beat them.

It'll probably turn in to imageshack. The great thing about AT's own pic hosting is that its consistant. You know you're not gona get a crappy popup when you click a link.

Bah, Ludicorp (the makers of Flickr) was just bought by Yahoo. Look forward to Flickr turning into a bloated, add-filled piece of crap.

If it does, then it will no longer own anyone, but for now it's still pretty cool.

Ah pics? has a long way to go, I'm working hard on a few things still, including advanced sorting options, template system and a completely new interface.

You should check out flickr, even if it's just for ideas that might work on pics.

I just registered.

Meh. I trust pics.bbzzdd.com, and it'll take a LOT to get me to move, I trust that it's popup free and I know (well -- sort of know) the admins. That's enough for me. Any other pics site will have to give me a LOT to change that.

I'd rather use a service where I can contact the owners/administrators personally.
That's the whole draw of the AT pic hosting sites.

When I read the topic, I thought that you meant the servers themselves got 'owned' aka hacked. Then I got scared. But I'm glad you're just talking about another host... because I dont want to have to rebuild my server.

(SFW unless you have an anal retentive boss)

Yeah, that's a really natural pose. What's she doing, looking for crabs?

heh, well, i never said it was natural

the problem with flickr is that you can't link directly to pic files (jpg) because it shows all pictures in flash
