so in january i bought a car insurance policy from all state. 6 months for ~$350. everything seems to be going well.

friday i get a call from a 1-877 number. i pick up, no one's on the other end. i forget about it and go on with my day.
today i get a call from the same number, again, i pick up, no one's on the other end. hmm... so i call the number back, and i reach an all state answering service.

so i call the all state customer service number to see what's up. i give them my name, address, state, etc, and they tell me my policy is only in 'prospect' status. WTF? i tell them i already paid them two months ago, and i've received the insurance card and policy and everything. oh, she looks again, and finds my policy number. i ask her why am i getting calls from all state. she tells me i have a balance of $200. i explain calmly (dont shoot the messenger) that i was quoted for about $350, and i'd paid in full. she says my policy for 6 months is $550... uhh, where did this come from, and why was i never told this? she says she's sorry, she doesnt know why, and to call my all state agent.

so i call my all state agent. again, i give her my name again, she looks, and says i dont have a policy with them. now i'm getting pissed. here's my policy number, b1tch, now go look again. she puts me on hold again, and comes back a couple minutes later saying she's not sure what's going on, she'll give me a call back later. what the hell, they cant keep track of who has insurance policies with them?

damn, all state blows.

I believe Allstate is one word. Perhaps you were scammed by "All State"??

So the good hands people are giving you the finger?

I feel so much better about my USAA policy.

Allstate screwed me over as well. I was in an accident while covered by them. I was not at fault. They jacked my rates up $700.

I called around and found a better deal with Progressive, but after I asked for an official quote, instead of one from their site, they quoted me $350 more for a year than what was given on the site. I faxed them a copy of the police report showing I wasn't at fault and they dropped the $350.

Allstate put that accident into the CLUE system as an at-fault accident, those bitches.

Unless you're a US military officer or a dependent of one, forget about it. I heard they recently added NCO's to the mix too, but they pay higher rates than the officers.

I love my USAA insurance, I've been with them since 1986.

I was told by my agent that signing up online blows chunks. Just go to an agent and you'll get the same rates but it'll be a lot smoother.

What about just a measly honorably discharged E-4?

Of course the agent says that, they don't get as much money from an online referral, and they don't get to see you in person to try to sell you life, home, auto, health, etc.

Yea, I thought of that too, but they brought up some good points. And if the OP has went to an agent instead, this probably wouldn't have happend. Apparently when you sign up online, the agent does not have any of your information until everything is "finalyzed." This was even though I had also paid in full. Bleh, I don't remember anything else.

Good luck for the OP though.
