All sounds come from the same channel

Fresh install of Vista Business x64 on an ASUS P5Q mobo. Both the onboard Realtek's drivers and the Creative drivers are installed, though the problem persists with only the Creative drivers in place.

Basically every sound plays from the same channel. E.g. when a sound test plays sounds from the left and right channels, both sounds play loud and clear in the right ear of my headphone. Same with speakers, only one of them plays sounds, no matter where the sounds are supposed to come from. Tried messing around with the sound settings, nothing seemed to help. Also, while wearing my headphones, I can hear a slight static in the left (mute) ear.

Any ideas what the specific problem is here, and how to fix it?

Do you need both soundcards? I have a p5q pro and I disabled the onboard sound and didn't install the onboard drivers. I have an xfi xtremegamer with the latest non-beta drivers and it's running fine for me. I don't need the onboard card so I disabled it. If you plan on running the creative card only I would advise uninstall both drivers, maybe even using drivercleaner/drive sweeper before installing the creative driver.

Here's a link to drive sweeper if you need it:

ps: make sure you use it in safe mode.
