Are all products made by Sony really that bad? I keep seeing everyone say how bad Sony has been making their products but what about the TV's? I know the new Sony Bravia is very good... any other products?

Sony makes some good stuff. It's their corporate culture that is evil  although I still enjoy my jumbo Sony HD LCD TV. :p

If all there products were really bad, I don't think they would be in business. I have a Sony HD LCD TV as well and I'm very happy with it.

I only buy Sony video products. However, I'm not an elitest, and can't afford super high end. But for the average consumer, I think Sony is best.

Can't stand their audio line, but their higher end discrete circuitry stuff might be good.

Personally, I refuse to buy another Sony product. I have seen way too many defects in their consumer level stuff to warrant any purchases. Once you enter into their higher-end stuff it isn't so bad, but then you are paying a lot for the name and I don't think the value is there. You can almost always find a better product than Sony in every aspect for a better or same price.

Some Sony stuff is quite good, particularly their televisions.

Trinitrons were pretty much the gold standard in CRT technology, whether it was PC monitors (G520/FW900 and derivatives) or televisions (Wega CRT's).

Their SXRD sets are also very highly regarded.

I wouldn't touch any of their low end stuff, save for a few headphone models that are a pretty decent value.

I've bought numerous Sony products in the past and still do so. None have given me much problems to totally boycott their products.

I've had 3 Sony ES receivers over the last 15 years. I've never had a problem.

Buying Sony products is financially supporting malware writers. Forget their overpriced products plagued with build quality issues. Forget the fact they screw their customers at any opportunity, no matter how slim or obscure. Don't support malware writers.

And from a business perspective, they don't treat their dealers well either. Very low margins and poor tech/repair support.

most of their stuff is solidly made but they charge way more than needed on just about everything
e.g. 512MB MP3 player with a 3 hour rechargable battery...150$ which is about 70$ overpriced

My story with Sony starts in fall of 1983. I saved up and purchased the CDP-101 and the thing still works to this day. In the 80's I loved Sony.

The 90's rolled around and after the PS1 heating issue, PS2 disk read errors 3 days after the ps2 was released, and several thousand dollars in Sony optical drives failing I will never purchase another Sony product.

My dads Cineza VPL-HS51A mainboard blew up mid movie after only 2 months and killed the bulb. Sony fixed the unit but made him buy the new 300 dollar lamp.

Sony has lost touch. When I was a kid it was about inovation and pride and Sony was exemplary in this department. Now a days its about the money and however they can get it.

I own a few Sony products including some studio headphones which are quite nice. I also own two of their cheapo DVD-R/CD-R Combo drives which have worked flawlessly since I purchased them almost six months ago.

I try not to purchase any big ticket items with them.

Yes, I also have a HTIB that matches my SXRD TV and I'm very happy with it.

However, I will go out of my way to avoid Sony products like mp3 players, cameras, etc. only because of their proprietary BS with their memory cards. That really sucks ass that they continue to release new products like that.

This actually the complete opposite, their prosumer stuff is generally very good, and their professional grade video is superb. But for the general consumer, stay the eff away from Sony.
