All SATA Components, question about Gigabyte DS3

Hey Guys,

As listed below I have a gigabyte DS3 3.3 and all SATA components. I removed the jumper from my drive to run on SATA II but I am still receiving a very low score on windows experience index for my drive (5.4) when more people are getting 5.8s. Is there any special bios set up for making sure my HD is running in full on SATA mode? I have nothing plugged into the onboard JMicron SATA controller and all my devices (HD and DVD) plugged into the intel chip set. I didn't tweak anything for the SATA in the BIOS as everything is working fine, albeit slower than I had hoped, can I change anything to speed it up? I don't plan on raiding or anything.

Thanks!

Keeping an eye on this incase I run into any similar problems when I finally put everything together for my PC since I plan to do the same and plug all my SATA stuff into the Intel slots.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any help.. :(

How do you know that your Seagate 500 GB 7200.10 gets a 5.8 in the windows experience index? Every benchmark is different, they weigh different performance aspects differently, and every hard drive model is optimized to excel in some tasks at the expense of other tasks. So maybe the Windows Experience Index weighs heavily the aspect of your drive where Seagate decided to sacrifice performance.

Don't put too much confidence in the accuracy of the Microsoft Experience Index.
Try using HD Tach, SiSoft Sandra, Everest, or some other HD benchmarking program.
For maximized HD performance, you need to run in AHCI mode. Which requires both: a bios setting and an AHCI driver.
Which many users report must be initialized at the time Windows is first installed for proper functioning.
You may have better luck getting AHCI mode to work when connected to a JMicron port, as opposed to an Intel port.
