It's official.....time to jump. 36" 220lb Trinitron goin' out. Something 45-47" going in its place.

Particulars:

-Unless you are a 3D Lamb, I'm thinkin just a 2D set is fine.

-Would like to keep it cheaper so probably regular LCD unless you think edge/LED, etc is worth the extra $$$

-Would like to keep it a Costco set, but open to others.

(For example, I saw this set...... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889252088 ......on Newegg & have always had good luck w/ Sony)

TIA!

Samsung LN46C630 got great reviews on Amazon and has been discontinued. I think it runs around $800 now, but hopefully you could find cheaper sale somewhere.

If you have any interest in Google TV, that might be interested into some manufacturer's models for new season.

I think Samsung LN55C630 was actually on sale for $999 at Best Buy a week or two ago.

No love for the Costco stuff?? (I know, looks like a lot of Vizio but got a couple hundred bucks headstart if I spend there).

???

P.S. Matt, I think detonator fubar'd your link but I entered the sku & saw it. Looks like it has to be a "ship to store" thing for my area. Again, would like Costco, but at THAT price it might just be a good 'disposable' TV, eh?

Well the thing is that the differnce between the lowest end TV and the highest isn't like it used to be. I might shy away from Westinghouse but there are plenty of quality TV's on the market right now many of which use the same display screen.

If you want Costco check out the coupons you get in the mail cus they always have coupons for tv's. I got my tv at Costco in November because of the easy return policy and extra warranty. Even without coupons Costco has cheaper tv's. What's your price range?

Well, I'm willing to spend up to, say, $1,200 but I'd like to keep it under $1K.

And I'll probably hate myself for asking this, but.........how concerned should I be with wifi or (as I'm reading) using a wifi adapter. (when the TV doesn't have it)

It would have to be WiFi or nothin cuz I ain't pullin' ethernet 50 feet thru 3 rooms. :p

TIA (what got me reading ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102351 )

Ive yet to really hear much about any of the 2011 tvs, but I know: LG Infinia 47LE8500, Vizio XVT473SV, Samsung UN46C6500, are all well reviews and are good tvs. Some are probably over your price range a little bit, but the difference between a <$1000 tv and $1400 can be substantial. LEDs are pretty much commonplace now.

Also, any reason you arent looking at plasmas?

Well, I have a rather bright room so the glossy doesn't serve well. But aside from that, I just feel as though plasmas have had their day & I don't wanna buy old.

Another reason is the amount of power & heat on plasmas. That Vizio I had could've served double duty as a furnace.

I might be willing to splurge if the diff were enough.

Then again........that $600 RCA that Matt linked might be plenty of TV and leave me with an extra $900 or so to do other stuff with.

???

I'd keep an eye out on slickdeals and fatwallet, I picked up a sony last week for an amazing price.

The clearance sales will net you a lot of TV for half of the price you're wanting to pay, as long as you don't care about all the bells and whistles. (Bells and whistles being 3D and motion interpolation, some sets have 120hz but don't expect 240 or 480 interpolation)

You can also look for open box discounts as well. That should net you another 10% off the price.

OK, well I seriously think that I'm going to "underthink" this game. I found myself today WAAAAY over thinking & here's the two I'm looking at........

VIZIO XVT473SV

and

VIZIO E470VL

If you check out the two on Amazon, you'll see that the E470VL seems to be plenty of TV and have just little enough hassle to be a nice TV overall. My local Costco has 'em for $580 and I don't know if that is something I can withstand.

I think the XVT473SV is probably a great TV, but for $1,300 and mostly buzz-word pluses, I don't know. Wifi? Apps? Really?

***As a sidebar, I was really thinking of just splurging & getting a Samsung, but I noticed all the Samsungs have glossy screens. (Holy sad face, Batman)

TV shopping truly has become an exhausting experience that I really don't enjoy anymore.

the Vizio 3SV is one of the best series of tvs for the money you can get. Never go by specs alone, they arent always accurate and can only lead to confusion and misinterpretation of a panels quality. Pictures quality, color accuracy, black levels ect are going to be night and day between those 2 panels. I would personally buy a Vizio from a B&M for warranty, since Vizio does have quality control issues or so I hear. Remember if you go look at a tv at a store, they probably have a poor video feed into it so all the tvs will look the same until you get a proper signal. Sams Club does that on their featured tvs and will hook up a br player to them if you ask person nicely enough.

I remember for black friday the 55" 3SV went for $1500 at Sams Club, Im sure Costco has a similar sale during all major holidays. Remember all the new stuff is coming out now so they should be dumping the old models at discount prices.

i have the 55 inch vizio 3SV for what it costs i have nothing bad to say about it. wifi works, the apps ive messed with work fine (netflix and revision3) wireless router is 2 floors away and its never had an issue. PQ is very good for what it costs. my plasma beats it on PQ slightly, slightly better blacks and more depth. Blacks on the vizio are good, you wouldn't notice unless you did a side by side. as for the depth its more of a plasma vs LCD in general thing.

Grrrr.........all right, all right....let's everybody just calm down. ;) :p

Sooooo (sigh) if I decide to go with that TV, I've got $140 in a Costco rebate stub (from the Amex credit card) that'd be kinda' cool to use but it wouldn't break the deal if I had to buy from Wal Mart.

Walmart = $1177.00

Costco = $1249.00

I know Amazon sells it for $1400 so $1249 ain't bad, but wondering if I can price match at Costco? Or just buy it at Walmart?

Yes, they do. You get 2 years w/ Costco. (though I'd get 2 years using my Amex if I bought at Walmart too).

Though, I don't know if the Amex throws a 3rd year on top of the 2 that Costco gives you or if it's just 2, period???

P.S. As for Plasma/LCD, I had a guy at Best Buy today try to seriously sway me toward Plasma cuz I told him I watch a lot of sports. He was definitely pro-plasma. (shrug)

I was seriously looking at Plasmas but like you said you have a bright room which is why I went LCD because I have an extremely bright room during the day as well. Even with the anti-glare coating there would still be reflections. I like having a lot of natural light in my rooms so I had to bite the bullet and get an LCD. I wanted a Plasma bad since you can get so much more tv for the money but in the end I had to get what was practical for the room it was going in.

Yikes!!! So I got my @$$ reamed by a buddy today about even MENTIONING the word "Vizio"!! He told me if I buy Vizio, he'll personally come kick my @$$ as a favor to me cuz I'll have needed it. :p

He's a Samsung whore, but I know the big 3 all have glossy screens (bad for my lighting situation). BUT......since it looks like I'm going to have to do more research on the big 3 how would you rank brands if you had to between the following.....

Samsung
Sharp <----- Dare I say if I had nothing else to judge by, I'd say the Sharps are the most brilliantly attractive TV's on any box store wall. (?)
Sony

I'd like matte finish to cut glare, but may not have a choice. (sigh)

We have the Visio XVT473SV from Costco. It seems to have great PQ. We wanted a good warranty, ease of return, and anti-reflective surface since we don't watch tv in the dark too often.

Thanks for the reponses gang, and thanks for the links, roo, that first one sounds like somebody got a Samsung divorce....LOL.

As for AVSforum, I've been there before. When I did the Vizio plasma years ago I was there exhaustively. (And again now as I was there for a good couple hours last night).

It's so friggin' sad to say but it's like not much has changed since '05. It's still a hard-win situation. Then I look up at my 36" CRT that just keeps on ticking with zero problems, crystal clear, sharp SD reception & wonder why I'm doing this to myself in the first place. I want to watch the Masters in HD?? Is that really it??

Maybe I should just go to a friend's house for those 4 days. :(
