Looks like our 95 Ford Countor blew it's transmission yesterday. The car has 208,000 miles and is worth much less than the likely repairs...so I think it's time to get a new vehicle.

I'm looking at spending about 5-6k, and just looking for a basic point A to point B car (preferably some basic options like power locks/windows, AC, ABS, etc.)

I know the prevailing logic says get a Civic or Corolla, but I want to know if anyone has any suggestions for a reliable used car that tends to have a low selling price because they don't have much demand as a used car.

As a side note, the wife absolutley refuses to get a manual transmission, so that limits the options somewhat.
