Have a pi gen 3. Thinking of ditching direct tv. Want something that I can view hulu, netflix, amazon and sling tv on. I was thinking kodi could do this, but upon research, doesn't quite fit the bill.

I'm wondering if a low power windows machine would do it, but want a family friendly front end (for the rest of my crew).
Thanks in advance.

Am I asking too much?

p.s. HD ideally.

on a pi, probably not. you could test this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/4mb5c4/howto_androidtv_for_raspberry_pi_3/
(A lot of the functionality is still broken on the pi)
a better idea is here: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/-Off...IAOMI-Mi-Box-4K-H-265-Android-Box-371297.html
or here: -edit nvm on the Nexus Player, Out of stock again...
<note: You want strong Wireless AC for the best experience. Alternatively there are usb to Ethernet adapters- but you need to investigate before purchasing those for best results>

another way (I don't prefer this interface, but my Mom loves it) is a Roku. do NOT get anything less than a Roku 3, and do NOT get the older stick- the newest stick is OK.

So it sounds like an android TV device would fit the bill? Maybe a shield would be an option.

Shield is nice if you plan on playing PC games on your big screen and have a Nvidia GPU or if you want 4K streaming. Otherwise Roku 3 is probably sufficient. Also, Shield does not have Amazon, so if that is important and you also want game streaming, a Roku 3 + steam box would function similar at the same combined price (or at least it used too).

I personally love the Shield, and it is possible to make Amazon Prime Video run on it (by manually installing the Sony Amazon Video App). Note that the 16G Shield could be hard to get at the moment, as the rumor mill has suggested a V2 coming out very soon....
