Ok,
I got my team made, and one game in so far.
Visuals are meh.. I was expecting much better. The cutscenes and animations are cool, but the crowd is just terrible. I was just expecting the whole game to look better. Not to get off on a tangent, but how cool would it be to have the people in the crowd get up and walk around ? I mean they show them static in every single game, does no one have to get up to take a pi** or get a beer ? Would it kill them to get in a fight once in awhile ? 😉
Gameplay is ok.. Feels a little slow compared to madden.. Apparently you can turn that up in options, I just have everything default so far.
AI is average-good. ( again, on defaults)
I dont really miss the NFL teams so far.. There are so many ex-stars you still feel like you are playing NFL football. Most of the players seem to be from my era too ( 80's+up). Lots of players I used to actually watch play.
Overall, the game does not seem as polished as 2k5 did when it came out. The whole "crib" and in-game achievements thing is pretty tacked on this time, while in 2k5 it seemed like a major part of the game. In fact, I found the achievement unlockables, but I never saw a "crib". The after game replay is back + looks good although its a generic version this time, not sportscenter.
I would say for most people rent before buy on this one. I am fairly happy with my purchase as I can have Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Chris Spielman, and Eddie Murry on my team again 🙂
There is also a real-time sports ticker with (real life) scores and news from MLB,NFL, NBA, etc.. That is VERY cool.
The one thing I was impress with was the amount of data they put into...all the NCAA-Division I teams and classic teams as well. I am an alumni from BSU (and I love my Madden 2007) is the main reason I bought it. When I ventured into the campus-legend mode and found my town (and a whole bunch of other towns here in Idaho). Of course, then I played Oklahoma vs. BSU and smothered the Sooners...42-7.
