All PC3200 memory compatible with PC2700 mainboards?

I'm looking for some extra memory for my new system, but I haven't had much luck finding gigabyte sticks of PC2700 400mhz ram. I've found a number of 3200 sticks, some of which say compatible with PC2700 mainboards. Will I be able to safely use PC3200 ram in my 2700 mb?

From my understanding, it would also be alright to mix 3200 with 2700, the only issue being that the 3200 will slow to the speed of the 2700... correct?

well not every kind of ram will work on every motherboard, but in a general sense yes it will work. u may want to check with ur motherboard manufacturer before purchasing the ram.

Yes, but not all motherboards are "forwards compatible".

However, I don't believe any motherboards that take DDR wouldn't take PC3200 and run it at a lower speed -- the DDR spec takes this into account. The bigger problem is usually older SDRAM-based chipsets that flip out if you give them high-density SDRAM chips (because they were built when there were only low-density ones available, and so the memory controllers can't handle it).
