Guys why and when, for your choice on the Dual cores offered by both Intel and AMD. :D

My Choice is most likely going to be with the X2 4400+ after long thoughts between the dually SD (4400+) and the FX57 and the high yields.

I am looking to now save my money and go with the 4400+, this is a nice option for me as i will be able to just drop into to my current rig .. with probs a BIOS update needed aswell.

I just bought a 3700+ San Diego because I really (ultimately) want the best X2 that can fit on S939. If that ends up being the 4800+ then so be it, and I'll need to wait a while for the prices to fall.

I well get the desktop equal the the Merom Cpu. Not the EE model either I want value for my $$$$. If i wanted the Fastest pc around than I would use the EE model but David won't bye those cpu's (06 models) no bang for the buck he states. Since all of his top end PC are watercooled I see his point .

4400+...I've been very tempted while waiting to just get a 3700+ San Diego and put the saved money towards a G70 variant of some sort, but I'm sticking to it. G70 will be Xmas :p

I would get a dual core if:
AMD's were cheaper
OR
Intels were better at gaming.
I might have to settle for a 3000/3200+ and overclock the hell out of it though, given current prices and Intel's crapness at gaming.

I would get the 4400+ if I could, the extra cache with little extra cost over the 4200+ makes it a nice deal.

Im going to single core it for now and if there is more software written for dual then I will look at those quad cores in Quarter 1 of 2006. Otherwise I feel Im just wasting half my CPU with a dual core now.

4400+ its not REALLY expensive, i like the 1mb L2. and i hear it will be a good overclocker.

I need it!!! In apps I use like 3dsmax, Autocadd, Viz Renderer the 2nd core is use probably the most efficiently then most any other app....I also would like to get better encoding time while doing some CADD work or other multimedia...I am not interested in running 4 apps, but 2 real gheavy apps with some non heavy cpu apps....

I will likely get on in Mid July...I hate to play pre-order game so I will wait until they are in stock and more plentiful..I will also use others as guinea pigs to see if I should get a better heatsink as well...

I have a X2 4400+ pre-ordered and have already sold off my Intel dual-core ready set-up. Can't wait to get it.

Sure will. AMD willing, tankguys are supposed to get them on the 15th and hopefully they'll ship them out that day or next. Being new to DFI boards, I just need to do some reading on dfi-street to figure out how to best configure my DFI nF4-Ultra mobo.

ps. To all - I had everything but a Pentium 830 to go Intel dual-core but the performance difference was so large that I had to switch to an A64 X2 4400+. But I have read about a guy using water cooling, has gotten a 830 stable at 4.1ghz. Not bad IMHO.

If I were to buy an X2 this very moment, most likely a 4400+, as I would save some money towards a better video card, and I already have excellent cooling.

I dont plan to buy a dually until:

AMD lowers their absurd price

and/or

Intel solves their heat crisis via Presler.

I'm thinking the X2 4400+ when it drops significantly in price.

4400+

I generally don't fork over that much money for a CPU, but hey, its two in one and overclocked will be faster than all retail single cores. Well worth it then.

I don't expect to upgrade my rig until the first price drop of next gen vid cards and that will be my only upgrade for a while as I will oc my 3000+. So when prices for dualcore AMD drop to reasonable prices within the next year or so, I'll get the best bang for buck.

Do you guys think Presler will be competitive in terms of performance?
What will be its advantage aside from I think proce?

Well, I voted for the 4800+, but that's only because I have a new A64 3200+ 939 system that I plan on using for the next few years. Once it get too slow, I'll drop in the highest end 939 dual core (which will hopefully be pretty inexpensive by then) and be good to go for a another couple years.

I'm hoping that with only a CPU and video upgrade, I'll have a top notch system for 4-5 years (maybe I'll need more ram too).
