All of a sudden, I can't load the forums in Chrome

I remember that back with FF I had issues too (lots of people did back then) so I somehow blocked dynamic2.anandtech.com but now that I'm using Chrome, I guess I'm susceptible to this problem again.

Any solutions for Chrome? Other than "Firefox" and "Safari" (using Safari right now).

I think a universal solution should be editing your hosts file to redirect to 127.0.0.1. IIRC, dynamic2 is the adserver...or something like that.

I just came here to post this. I'm so sick of the unreliability of AT forums and now it's completely broken in one browser? Jesus Christ.

Edit - oh I see its the ad server. Apparently getting flashing animated banners to molest users' eyes is more important than the ability to load the website. Ironically it's the adblocking users who are able to visit.

Changing browsers is kind of a PITA (obviously that's what I'm doing at the moment). It seems like an unnecessary pain considering the site has been working perfectly up until ~24 hours ago.

You need to realize this is a Chrome bug, not an anandtech issue. It effects me as well, but you should be complaining to google not us.

I have been using Chrome with AT since it was released  Then 36 hours ago the website suddenly stopped loading.

So have I. And if you look you'll find the page is loading fine (do view source). Chrome isn't rendering it. It seems related to some of the addserver script, but end of the day Chrome is broken not the site. Did you report it from google, they have a report site button right in the browser....

Thanks for the tip, I didn't realise that that was what was happening. Will report it now.

One more thing. Fusetalk hasn't fixed anyting and isn't going to fix anything. Why would they give a crap about chrome?

I don't think it's a Fusetalk specific thing, it seems more likely that something funky is going on with the advertisements. That's just my amateur opinions based on the fact that presumably Fusetalk hasn't changed in the past few days. I'm probably wrong though ;) Bring on the new forum software.

I've been using Chrome since it came out, and *could* load the forums but the hyperlink buttons would not work if I tried to do a reply. So I stopped using Chrome when visiting A/T.
Now I see that everything works. I wonder what changed?!

(I have a huge hosts file, but that had nothing to do with it. Old/new/no flash and/or java had nothing to do with it...)

Just checking in - I had the ad server blocked with adblock & FF, so I added an entry to my host file and it did the trick. That said, yesterday or the day before, I had the same issue but it was trying to load from some server that I didn't recognize.

Annoying.

You also might try using the HOSTS file provided by these people. The HOSTS file trick seems to have worked for me on Chrome.

edit: Actually, nope. After more use Chrome still craps out. Always happens after I try to post. Apparently the posts go through but the page won't load.

Oh well...I'm tired of waiting for someone to implement a proper adblock and mouse gestures on Chrome anyway. I'm going to Firefox.

I've had the same problem for a couple weeks now too (posting from work). It *was* working in Chrome, then quit working. I didn't patch the browser, why would it just automagically start acting up? AT seems to be the only site affected, it's down for many people, and the browser hasn't changed. I have a hard time believing the browser just suddenly started acting up for a bunch of people. It's frustrating. Guess no AT at home for me then until somebody figures out who broke what.

I formatted my drive and reinstalled the latest edition of Chrome. It works now. Maybe you guys have to update?

Edit: doh, as soon as I hit reply, it died lol.

I am having this issue too. I can load the forum pages ok unless I am trying to load another webpage at the same time in anohter tab. If I do, FF freezes and I have to close it.

Edit: last night was the first time this has happened.

FF freezes for me as well, seem to be one of the ad-links that does it.

You all are smoking crack, it's a Chrome problem not an Anandtech problem. Even those of you using FireFox, it's a Google Chrome problem! Obviously! :p
