All of a sudden, Explore cannot create folders or shortcuts

This is very odd. With an Explorer window open, the File menu has no "New" option. Cannot create a folder. Right clicking a window has no option for "New", if I wanted to create a shortcut, for example. Using "Save As" menu in Word, though, I can create a folder in a directory tree on the drive and then save there.

This problem is affecting all drives on the PC. This is on a Win ME PC. Happened suddenly since the last time I used it, which was to install Adaware and Spybot.

It's almost as though a switch has been thrown to turn off these functions, but I don't know what I did, if I did it.

Advice please.

did you find any adware? It could cause wierd stuff like that. It's probably some registry/policy setting but I don't know what.

When you ran Adaware did you tell it to NOT eliminate "NEGLIGIBLE" items.

If you had Adaware remove these Negligible items, you have messed your computer up !!!

I really don't know how to fix this other than reinstalling your operating system and if you do that, I would highly recommend that you get a better O/S than ME.

Good luck
