I have an old hard drive, but it is still pretty new, bought it only one year ago. Now, I'd like to build a new desktop, but I want to use the old HD with Windows XP and other personal files. I'm pretty sure that some problems will happen, such as video card needs a new driver. How can I solve these problems? Previous video card was Geforce 3 Ti-200 64M.

my system:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
ECS NFORCE4M-A Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 4X ATX AMD Motherboard
eVGA GeForce 7600 GTS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
WD EIDE 120G with windows XP
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
APEX PC-115 Beige Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply
LG E-IDE/ATAPI DVD-ROM Drive Model

Thanks a lot!

Don't count on it even booting, especially if this is a much older platform.

A much better solution is to slave the drive to another machine (or boot the new machine + old HD up with a BartPE or Linux Live CD) and copy the files elsewhere, nuke the drive, and reinstall XP, then transfer the files back over.

Sometimes even a minor switch has problems. My ECS KN1 SLI Extreme board recently died, and I had issues switching to an Abit KN8 SLI, which has the same chipset and basic features. I ended up reformatting to avoid headaches.

Reformat. You'll be glad you did ;)
