His 965 is at 4.1ghz a full 700mhz higher than in that benchmark. Hard to say its a good indication. Compare the phenom 980 vs. The 8320 and you are pretty close to what the difference would be using the AT bench.

Hey everyone, I appreciate all the good feedback.

I have a Corsair H70 which will be reused so heat shouldn't be an issue. I have no idea what kind of power my X4 965 is putting out (don't care either) but the H70 doesn't have a problem keeping things around 30C idle and mid-high 40s loaded so I think I will be OK there.

At this point I am debating to go with the 8350 or 8320. The 8320 seems to be the sweet spot I think in terms of price.

8320 then.

Shouldn't we figure that since the 965 was overclocked, the OP will also OC an 83x0? The amount of overclock on the new CPU is indeterminate, but if it is 500MHz, it should roughly equal a 700MHz OC on the 965.

once you're past 4.4-4.5 GHz you see a big spike in energy consumption

On my FX 8350 the spike happens after 4.6 but 4.7ghz is not that much higher. I would not push the 8350 past 4.7ghz as performance increase is not linear at that point. My chip can run @5.0ghz but the extra heat and the tiny performance increase over 4.7ghz are not worth it IMO.

Exactly.
OP get the FX 8350, it seems to be better binned overall and you will most likely get an extra 200mhz boost by ocing to the max. That however is not guaranteed but is usually the case (research the web to see it yourself).

Excellent suggestion. Since your last build was the 965BE, the 8350, if supported by your mb, makes the most sense. Just wait until it goes on sale.

Be careful buying here. There have been reports of credit cards being hacked after purchasing from this site. Don't know how accurate this is but I have seen several posts on this. Do a search in the 'hot deals' forum area here at Anand.

Might not be anything to it, but...check it out first

Ack. I thought they would be OK as they used to be Buy.Com?

Thanks for the heads up.

Go for it!

My 8320 runs at 4.7 GHz at 1.4875v - Just did some testing this week. Ran OCCT over night.

Its never crashed one on me in any game or app - running 24/7

Good enough for me.
