All My Ports are gone!!

I just installed a new printer and when I rebooted the printer was grayed out, it said port unavailable.

When I investigated further ALL the ports are gone...LPT, IP, COM...the whole lot.

How do I get them back?

I turned off system restore so that is not an option unfortunately.

You didn't say what OS you are using.

Assuming it's Windows XP, did you try entering Device Manager, right-clicking on your Computer's Configuration, and selecting "Scan for hardware changes"? You can only do this if you are a Local Administrator on the PC.

Don't be totally shocked if XP asks to be re-activated after re-discovering the missing devices.

I like this answer!

However, I would venture a guess that the printer software is the culprit. I would uninstall it as a first step.
