Ok, seriously, WTF? That just defies logic.

I'm not a fan of the movement, but the use of the word violence in this context has been used a lot.

strength of emotion or an unpleasant or destructive natural force.

Gandhi was known for using the word in that context as well. Its not typically how most people use it, and I dont use it that way, but many do.

Apparently BLM will be staging a protest at the Minnesota State Fair this year - they have vowed to "shut it down." Our fair has the largest daily attendance of any in the US, and this protest has the potential to turn ugly.

I have no problem with civil protest, but, as with the Occupy movement, the point of "Black Lives Matter" eludes me. There is most definitely racism in our country, but I fail to see how protests like this will have any positive effect with respect to alleviating it. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of black homicide victims - 90% - are killed by other black people, so I'm not sure who these protests are intended to "educate," or how they could have any positive effect on the longevity of black people. I guess I just don't get it . . .

But cops are to blame for not protecting those black lives too. It's like when they incite people by yelling that there is a war on black people. Some young black men get agitated and then go out and shoot at cops, and the cops fire back - thereby demonstrating that to them, black lives don't matter.

Somehow . . .

They are protesting what they view as disproportionate police violence against black people and the cultural forces that enable that violence.

Whether you agree or disagree with them is of course up to you, but they aren't protesting just the idea that black people might die sometimes.

The lives of anyone who gets between me and the state fair do not matter, I don't care what color they are.

I haven't been for a few years, but my fiancee and I recently bought a house on Lake Como, about a mile from the Fair, so will definitely be going this year.

Perhaps you are trying to find a logic and reason to the cause when the actual cause is total frustration, hopelessness, and desperation. Consider the possibility they don't actually any longer care what people think.

Protesting that their lives matter by disrupting public events isn't gonna get their point across to any reasonably minded person. Besides, anyone who wants to take the time to look into (most people don't care) will find the blatant hypocrisy, and selective approach that's mostly targeting law enforcement rather than blacks being killed in their own communities mostly by other black people.

Michael Brown was really stupid. He deserved to get shot. I think most people feel that way. Getting angry and burning down Ferguson over some idiot attacking a cop and getting shot didn't help their case one iota. Its basic common sense that you don't fuck with the police. If you get pulled over, say yes sir/mam, and if you show them respect, they'll be reasonable with you. I've gotten out of speeding tickets by just being polite with the police officer. If you start acting stupid, being rude, cussing, etc at the police officer, they can and will take you to jail. As the saying goes, don't fuck with the police. Is it really that hard of a concept to understand?

For some people, yes it is.

Maybe for people with sub 100 IQs. Smart people tell people with power what they want to hear, and if they have a problem, they'll undermine the efforts of those people while they're not looking, or take their issue to the right officials in charge. Who wants to go to jail for bitching and cussing at a rank and file cop who is just a "yes man" over general police behavior? Apparently some stupid people think they're heroes for telling off a cop. And other stupid people will cheer them as such. Meanwhile nothing changes.

Enjoy it while you can. I know people who loved the fair, then moved near Como and they hate the fair now. Might have something to do with people just parking in their driveway without permission...

I'm right on the lake, on Como Blvd W, more than a mile from the Fair, so I doubt parking will be an issue. We shall see . . .
