All laptops socketed?

I was looking at some used dells, some of which had weak CPUs, but big hard drives, lots of RAM and 8600m GTs. So is it possible to swap a CPU on most modern laptops?

Yes, but in most cases you will void the warranty that may exist. Access to the CPU is, in many cases, beyond user authorization in that it requires removal of the keyboard. However, with old used Dells, that is probably not an issue anyway. Hard drive sizes mean little - they are easily changed. RAM is also easily changed.

Most are usually socketed but a little research on the particular model(s) you are looking at never hurts
