Bomb threats were made to a school board member. If this was a joke, prank, or fake alarm then I am wondering if those who made it actually think it is going to be taken lightly at all.

http://www.businessinsider.com/los-angeles-schools-closed-due-to-terror-threat-2015-12

. . . and it's 8 hours and counting down to the chucklehead debate.

I've got all sorts of scenarios with causes, perpetrators and the skittish public in mind, and I don't know which one to elaborate as an example.

But watch the chuckleheads climb all over this one tonight.

I suspect this is coming from some other cause than loose, self-radicalizing Islam/Jihad extremists. They don't announce themselves before an attack.

Somebody is stirring the pot of fear, though.

Word is rumors of a .25 kiloton nuclear bomb threat. FEMA scanning schools with aircraft carrying a neutron detector and gamma scintillation detector as well.

Most likely, student wanted to stay home today and called an outrageous threat to insure no school today.

If it was a nuclear threat, why just close schools? That makes no sense.

The nuclear threat seems far fetched right now. I would think the entire city would be on lock down or exodus if that were the case.

Very much doubt that terrorists have a nuclear bomb to blow up LA with. They might have some type of radiological bomb, but even then only the most high level terrorists could pull that one off. ISIS would possibly be capable of procuring radioactive material, and developing and operating radiological weapons from any material they get.

And again . . . The Sum of All Fears wouldn't announce such a thing.

With MAD and NORAD early-warning through the Cold War, one wonders about the casualty profile if MAD didn't work. Terrorists smuggling nuclear devices -- you could be well outside the blast zone and facing the wrong direction -- survivors all walking around blind.

I almost long for the Cold War days, with terrorists of the Yassar Arafat caliber. This hysteria has cost us one needless war, and all these other mounting public costs. According to one author and his book this year, we're falling into a trap of "Chasing Ghosts."

Baghdadi and friends must love it.

Because the blast radius of a .25 yield fission bomb is limited, and if the caller specifically said they targeted a random school with one it would not make sense to shut down the city. Actually announcing this and closing down a city would cause mass panic.

I find it far fetched since #1 no terrorists calls ahead to warn the public about what they are going to do.

#2 they are not capable of building even a simple gun type fission bomb.

You are better off flying aircraft with HE3 Neutron and Gamma scintillation detectors, pinpoint the source and then evacuate around the threat radius once they find the source.

I agree, a nuke/dirty bomb threat makes little sense.

1. If you take the time to acquire it and smuggle it in you're not going to risk your plan by calling in a warning.

2. Terrorist organizations don't call before the attack (that I know of), they claim credit after the fact.

Although the logistics of a radiological threat would probably necessitate quite a few people being involved; increasing the likelihood of someone calling in a tip after they realize being a complete asshole isn't cool.

Yup. And think about it. Why choose a day like today? I'll be very interested to see if just one of the chuckleheads puts this into a calm perspective tonight.

That was one of the first thoughts I had when I read the OP.

Wonder if the kid was smart enough to find a payphone(miraculously they still exist) to do it from while not smiling directly at the security camera if that is the case.

They probably bought a burner with cash and called it in or txted it and then tossed the phone.

They said the threats were multiply electronic.

A school-kid? Maybe. My theory: somebody wants to pluck the strings on the debate violin.

LA county is a blue island in a sea of pink counties.

I really hope it was some juvenile delinquent, but the effect will be the same.

Wait...

Christmas season...
School that's still in session...
Bomb threat...

Call in John McClane. It's all a ruse though - they're going to blow up a ship full of scrap metal, while stealing billions in gold.

NYC got the same nuclear bomb threat but they immediately concluded it was a hoax. LOL they feel LA overreacted.

Take your tinfoil hat off.

I don't need a tinfoil hat. Nor do I think any candidates or their campaigns would've done such a thing. Or they'd be fools to do so, with a risk that FBI would connect the dots.

But it's been done before. And there's always some nutcase trying to get a rise out of the existing frenzy.

It's a hole in the sieve of possibilities. So is the scenario of some student hoping for a longer holiday.

Now the news is coming in from DeBlasio's New York.

Tin foil hat, my ass. . . .
