alright, it'd be great if someone can help me find some answers.

here's what i have. dsl going to a linksys 4 port dsl router ----> router ---> pcs

I had 3 computers hooked up to a reg. router, abd they've had no problem seeing each other. I've recently moved one the the pcs downstairs, and is now getting internet straight from the dsl router. that works, but i can no longer see the other 2 computers. is there some type of setting i need to do in the dsl router?

2nd question. we're using sbc dsl, 1.5m down. I've never been able to get anything more than 150kb/sec. I did those dsl speed checks and it said my down is 1.1m. are they lying or what?

sorry if these questions are stupid, help are greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi,

Could you please say whether you use DHCP or static methods to assign IP information to your pc clients?

Thanks,

Andy

cool, thanks for the link Jack, I will read it when i get home tonight.

and fencer, I have no idea what dhcp is. when i tested yesterday, I can actually see my main rig from downstairs, I just can get into the shared folders. it's asking for a password. i bet I can find the answer from the link above.

thank you both.

if its asking for a password, just enter the username and password you use to log into the computer where the files are physically located, and you should be good to go.

Hi again, given that you can see the other computers I think you and everyone else is right in thinking it's to do with sharing security/access permissions.

Good luck,

Andy
