all inclusive resort

Please share your experiences. I have been looking at them in Cancun and would like to go to an AI on my honeymoon. Would you recommend an AI over a cruise? I rather buy online as I don't have much time to go to a travel agency. Thanks to all who post.

I can't compare to a cruise as I never have had one but the one I went to in Barbados was first rate.
Excellent food, No shortage of service if the rooms were a bit nicer 'they were fine' probably would have added more stars alos cause it was samller resort no gym, tennis courts and some of the other stuff . . .

I went on my honeymoon in Cancun in May to an AI resort (the Moon Palace) and it was worth it. Excellent food, plenty of drinks, and free transportation every hour to the resorts on the "strip" with better beaches.

We heard from several people that going AI is the best way to go in Cancun, and we don't regret it at all.

I did an all inclusive resort in cabo. The drinks were ok, but nothing special, and they had a weak top shelf. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The service was good, and a free bar is pretty sweet too, even though it wasnt the best booze.

My wife and I stayed at an inclusive resort on St. Thomas (Wyndham hotel) for our honeymoon and had a blast. Plenty of food and drink and the rooms had a gorgeous view. Didn't have to worry about money except for when we ventured out on the island and went over to St. Johns.

Read as many reviews as you can before you pick one out though.

We went to Sandles for our honeymoon. It was great! All inclusive is the only way to go (if you want to drink a lot and eat a ton of food).

i stayed at an all inclusive in mazitlan and it was frikken sweet. Right on the beach... everything was pre paid so it felt like it was free 😛 I swear i probably drank 40 pina coladas a day. Eat at all the restaraunts and get the most expensive thing you can, and only take a couple bites of it, it's all good because it's prepaid 😀

i loved it

I stayed at an AI in Cancun. It is called The Dreams Cancun. We stayed on the Club Level which I certainly recommend, because drinks are easier to come by, you get stellar appetizers/hor'dourves, and even better service than the standard. It was about 4500 for two people for 6 days. The liquor was actually top-shelf, and the bartenders were AWESOME. It has about 7 restaurants, but I tired of them quickly. Restaurants around Cancun cannot be ignored, neither can the nightlife, although Dreams has a club on its property. The rooms were nice, and the mini-frig was re-stocked twice a day with water, juice, Corona, Soda, and other beverages -- at no charge. They have a Spa on-site, and it has wonderful massages and treatments.

If you are spluring, I recommend Platinum Car Rental. I rented a Mercedes SLK there for several days, and driving around Cancun in your own vehicle beats the HELL out of the Cabs, although the Cabs there are all nice and air-conditioned.

The beach there is kind of small, but it very well laid out and very clean and nice. I will say that the Sushi at the restaurant by the beach was AWESOME. The girl I was with freaking loved it so much that we went twice and were not tired of it a bit. Make sure you drink lots of tequila becaues it is free, and nothing is more fun that wasting a day doing shots and lounging around on the beach.

There is lots of stuff to do in the City and in areas around Cancun (such as tours or exploring ruins), and the hotel concierges can set you up easily and get you better rates than if you book yourself. The bellmen, maids, and staff are awesome, and just a modest tip here and there gets your total priority over those that think you don't have to tip at an all-inclusive. No limit to the amount of alcohol, and if you tip the bartender from time to time you get stiffer drinks, much quicker service, and they will suggest things to do and the like. The pools there are great as well, and it was a nice mixture of younger Americans, Europeans, and some middle-aged folks.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat, and I've only heard good reviews of Dreams. You can check out reviews on them on Expedia or other travel sites.

Oh, one of the best thing is the 24 hour FREE room service. You always get a full menu, and they will bring you whatever type of wine, beer, or alcohol you desire. Extremely fast regardless of the time you call. We ate breakfast in the room just about everyday, because their breakfast is freakin' awesome. Best orange juice I ever had.

Reviews of Dreams

One of the best things about it is that you are very close to local things, and can walk or take a short taxi ride. That means you can eat at local restaurants a few times, but you can also partake in the free room service and restaurants.

No lines to speak of at Dreams for any of the restaurants, services, or room service. Just fast, friendly, efficient service. I highly recommend Club Level over regular rooms -- the difference is worth it. Oh, and like the reviews stated -- free champagne and a cold towel when you arrive.

blah, don't do it.

I stayed all inclusive at the Oasis in Cancun. The food is terrible at the no line places and the line is like 40 mins to an hour at the places that are only "ok" for food. Go out to eat each night, you will see more of the city and you will enjoy the food more. Mostly you won't be limited to eating at the same 3 places for a week straight.

You get what you pay for. The nicer all-inclusives get much better reviews than the medium or budget priced ones. We went out to eat probably 3-4 times for dinner, but the rest of the meals were at the hotel.

I will have to look on my Amex bill, but there is a seafood resaurant that you HAVE to go to. Best Filet and Lobster I've ever had, and it was reasonable price wise.

If you really want to enjoy it rent a car from Platinum like I said. Cruising Cancun with the top down and music playing is like a total dream.

Oh, I was amazed that the AC was GREAT at Dreams. Not a single place did I ever get too hot in, and I'm the world's most hot-natured person.

I took my honeymoon at an AI resort in Cancun.

I didn't think the food at the Moon Palace was "excellent" as BlueWeasel did, but it was passable and not having to worry about money was nice.

My wife doesn't drink, so I didn't either while we were there so I can't comment on the booze factor.

My wife and I went on a cruise last year, and I absolutely loved it. I planned on doing absolutely nothing for a full week, and I succeeded! It was great. The food on the cruise was far better than the Moon Palace. The people on the cruise were friendly. The entertainment was really top notch (the orchestra was amazingly good!).

I have no desire to go back to a Cancun resort. But I do want to go on another cruise.

Well, I wasn't expecting the best considering it was all-inclusive, and I was suprised in the variety of food. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes at the Moon Palace, but we went during the middle of May, which might have been been before the summer crowds.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go on the Lobster Dinner Cruise (not part of the Moon Palace)....god, what a waste of money.

i was at an Ai down south of cancun known as Royal Hideway Resort and Spa.

5 restraunts, all presenation is european style (covered, remove covers same time, soup poured in front of you etc). it was amazing i was only 14, but the liquor was free, they had a beach bar. all kinds of stuff.

you have to be 16 or 18 to stay there i forget, but when 50 ppl are going and want to take 14 year olds, sometimes the resort will give in.

i have been to two all-inclusive resorts - one in Puerto Plata, Dominican (Paradise Hotel & Casino) and the other in the Mayan Riviera (Bahia Principe Akumel IIRC).

i would have to rate my trip to the Mayan Riviera as slightly better, although it is not fair to compare a three star resort to a 4 1/2 star. the Mayan coastline was just cleaner and our resort was much newer. I'd definitely go back.
