All in wonder...actually more confused ?

Hi people

Can someone give me some pointers with the following:

1. When do you think the 9700 range will get the All in wonder treatment?

2. Why can't I find anyone in the UK selling the 8500 128MB all in wonder?

3. Whats the difference between these:
a) ATI All in Wonder 8500 £170
b) ATI 8500 £202
c) Hercules All in Wonder 8500 £350

All these prices SEEM wildy different to me? (hope the links work!)

Or is there a better solution packing the same features?

Thanks again!

Well .. #1 is the 64 meg version (not sure if they make a 128 meg AIW though, haven't been following)
#2 doesn't seem to be AIW
#3 .. not sure if 128 or 64 but yeah ..

those are wildly different prices .. weird.

Here are neweggs prices in USD .. just to compare;

Heh .. I know how to link, it's just when you cut and paste text from other web pages it gets all garbled up and messed up ... :|

1. Q4
2. AIW have been slow to appear in the European Market from the beginning, Hercules is the ATI official supplier in that market and they dont have an AIW 8500 128 model.
3. a) appears to be an ATI OEM 8500dv (NTSC tuner)
b) Not an AIW card
c) Hercules 8500dv (PAL tuner) Retail version.
ATI cards are very expensive in Europe, the cheaper card must be an imported NTSC model from the US market as IIRC ATI left that market completely to Hercules, and also why those prices are so disproportunate- other than the tuner format, those cards are Identical and both "built by" ATI.

I'm not so sure, but you MAY be able to flash the NTSC model to PAL..but I wouldn't guarantee it, and that may be the only way to get the AIW 8500 128 although I'm affraid you maybe stuck there actually due to the fact that since there is no PAL version...no bios to flash to I'm affraid. Maybe check the Rage3d forums for info, as I'm not all that up to date on the euro models.

BUT???

these are the specs from a)... refering to TV tuner and TV out...

» TV Output to 1024x768 resolution in NTSC and PAL
» Stereo TV tuner (PAL B/G/D/K/I and SECAM L/D/K) with up to 125 channels

So it seems to cope with both.

I agree that a) is probably imported and that Hurcules have not reduced the prices yet for the forthcoming 9700 series.

Anyone know a US harware supplier that exports? Then I could get the 128MB b4 Hurclules release it for £££££s

The pricing is SOOO F**KED up here!!!
All in Wonder 7500 for £200!!!!!!!!! And in the same country I can get the 8500 all in wonder for £174!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I preume the 8500 is MUCH better than 7500?

Thanks!!!

You're right, it does seem to be a PAL tuner, wqhich is what you want over there. Sorry I missed that. I would give them a call to verify, but they both seem to be PAL version 8500dv's, 1 Retail, 1 OEM.

A good thing about that is the fact that unlike the other Radeon cards, AIW's are exactly the same card OEM or Retail...same ram..same clockspeed, same card...period. The only difference would be the gaming and editing software and warranty (I'm not positive about Hercules package...but the cards will still be the same...in fact the AIW's are all made by ATI regardless of the video format.

So, I doubt its an "import" of a North American(NTSC card) more likely, they just have reduced thier prices ahead of the other site (US prices are MUCH cheaper than even the lower priced card if my exchange rate is right) I think they are still both sold as Herc cards, but like I said, I'm not fully understanding the Euro market.

I reckon you've figured it out though... the overclockers seems to be on the ball with pricing n stuff so your right they probably anticipating the price drop.

I am looking at getting the 128mb shipped friom US...

128MB AIW from Knowledge Micro @ $274

This is the cheapest I can find (that ship internationally)... can u reckomend a cheap supplier? I have seen it over in the US for $230 @
