All-in-one computer: Gateway ZX6961 running windows 7, with a 2.4G Multimedia wireless kit, HID keyboard device (which says it is working properly).

I have had this computer for almost a year now and I can't tell if its just the way wireless keyboard are after time or not.

When I type sometimes, no matter what the speed, the keyboard can't seem to keep up with me. I replaced the batteries, reconnected, checked everything, etc. So when it can't keep up it misses key strokes, so I have to go back and retype everything and wait 5 minutes for the keyboard to settle down.

What can I do?

You can take it apart, clean it with detergent solution, try it again, and throw it away. :)

If you've been hostile towards it you might also check for cracked solder joints, and if it has a mylar film style contacts for the keys and to the PCB, I scrub them vigorously with a dry paper towel as sometimes they can become fouled with residue that doesn't just rinse off with detergent solution, though annoyingly some keyboards now have their sheets of mylar spot heat welded together making it more of a pain to disassemble and clean that area.

There are all kinds of possibilities though, from dirty USB port contacts (not as likely unless it is now using a port that went unused previously so being open, grime could build up) to new equipment in the area using same wireless frequency.

The most common reason I have seen is residue on mylar sheets where they contact the PCB, so you could try just scrubbing that area on both the sheets and PCB, then test the result before going through a full blown tear down and bath.

I might have been hard on it because I am a hard typer. I've working on giving it a cleaning. Thanks everyone. It hasn't been a complete tool lately!
