My company is planning to buy a new printer in the next week. We are a small/medium size shop that bearly do any printing. We don't have a scanner and our fax machine is falling apart. So it would make sense to buy one of these printers/scanners/fax machines that are now being sold. I am just wondering if any of you had experience with them, if so which ones; what do you like/dis-like about them. ect...

thx

the problem with all in ones is that if one of them breaks all of them do... but if it is a small bussiness then it may be a good investment as they are usually cheaper than buying/fixing the same things seperate, I have seen the one were you attach things like the scanner, fax onto it, it is good but a tad expensive.

yeah, you're better off getting separate components... with regular wear and tear, parts break down all the time. if you get one of the aiw devices, if one part breaks, you can't do anything.

you can get an okay scanner for $100, an okay color inkjet for $100. i don't know how much fax machines cost...

and of course if you go to buy.com, you can use whatever coupons you can find...

Thanks... the use for a all-in-one would be for a laser printer. I did lots of research on them in the last couple of days and overall it seems like a great deal... BUT great deals are not necessarly great deals.... I think we'll go with an HP Laser printer and we'll do without a scanner for now... Don't really need one just a little bonus :D

I bought a Canon Multipass 5500 for my business and it was a good investment.

The only prob is ...it is middle of the road in performance for printing, scanning, copying but other then that it is VERY handy.

Those multi-purpose machines are like tri-athlon competitors. They do lots of things okay but they don't do any one thing particularly well. In a small business you are far better off with separate components. Invest in a good printer. Watch for sales on Fax machines and scanners -- you should be able to find bargains on both. Finally, as a small business, I assume you will seriously consider buying from another local small business. If you go that route you should ask for some sort of discount if you get the 3 items from them.
