All in one boards?

hi, im trying to setup a network, but am trying to save money any where possible. I have a spare PII 400 which i want to use for a server, and an HD.

My question is, are all in one boards stable enough to be run as a server 24/7 if the case temp is cool enough? it wont be a HUGE server, just run as a PDC and Resource server. i was thinking about getting a PC Chips mobo with 128 mb ram to start off.

Well, PC Chips is a bad choice to start off with.....if you are going to use it as a PDC, I recommend you spend just that little bit more......grab an ASUS P3W....i810 based, integrated sound, video, stable.....usual high ASUS quality.
 
I agree with AndyHui, and they're very unstable!

I found that the 6182 mobo from MSI was a wonderful mobo for celeron/PII/PIII. It has video & sound, and plenty of diagnostic tools. Very stable and versatile (slot 1). All you'll need is a separate NIC.
 
i think ill go with the ASUS board, might cost a little extra, but i have had a little bad experience in the past. unless someone can persuade me otherwise
 
I think Amptron makes PC chips??? Maybe not??? Anyhow I have an Amptron 3741LMRT and it has seen its share of processors (several 366`s @550 most at 2.0 or 2.1 volts also Celeron II`s @ 800 1.7-1.8) and has been my secondary testing machine for processors that were going into other people`s machines... None the less it has been a great board for kicks...
 
I'd go with Iwill WS133-SN. It is the most stable all in one board (inclucding NIC) I have to date. I have had ASUS, ABIT, MSI and of course Iwill. No OC on Iwill board. If you want to OC ASUS is next then MSI
 
I just picked up the msi 6182 and celeron 500 for $100 off egay and am quite impressed so far. Have a 566 on the way , hoping for some decent
overclocking numbers.
 
Well...if you had enough then you should get the Intel DEEAAL (something like that!) i815 board. (Yes Intel board!) It has video, sound and LAN on-board. Very stable. Built a ton of these at work and works perfectly. Has a AGP slot and everything else a i815 board would come with.
 
Since this machine is a server, you don't really need the AGP slot....unless you plan to play games on the server?
 
good news everybody 😛, i spoke with my cuz and he said he would give me his BP6, memory, two 366@550 for 200-250. even would throw in a 4x burner for a little more. so ill probably go with that.
 
all in one boards are something you want to use for people you hate, perhaps you know a friend or family member that isn't getting on your good side, by sending them a system with these all in one boards, it's like sending them a whole lots of headaches at once, remember this idea, one day you might think of doing this to someone you not too fond with.
 
hahahahah, thats funny. actually, at the OEM i used to work for, we used to use all in one boards for our Budget Box, and i mean BUDGET! i literally used to get sick just looking at them, might sound funny but its true.

actually, i built a system for my sister using an all in one board, but havent had the chance to really use it seeing as how i sold off the processor, and am too greedy to use on of mine 😛
