All I want to do is play freaking GTAIII!!!

I've been trying to play GTAIII on my computer for a while. I bought a fresh copy at Wally-World the other day, adn installed it on the rig in my sig. Nothing ever comes up! When I put the disc in and start the game up, the Rockstar splash screen comes up for like 5 seconds, dissapears, and nothing. There is not even a GTA process listed in the task manager. Any suggestions?

Well, a good thought, there was a 1.1 patch that fixed a problem just like I described, however, I installed it and now even the splash screen will not come up. I even reinstalled the game fresh and nothing.

Check your refresh rates - I believe I had an old problem with the original GTA3 not liking refresh rates above 60hz.

yeah, no dice there either. It was set to 60 already since I'm on LCD monitors. I upped it to 70 with no change. Game still does nothing when launched, no splash screen now either.

you try different drivers?

my brother has to use anywhere from nvidia 61.xx to 77.xx drivers on his GF3 to get games to work, maybe you need to try some older ATI drivers?
