All hockey is being bought for $3.5 billion?

? When someone's offering over $3 billion, we felt we had an obligation to the board to have them, at least, hear it from the proposed purchaser. ?
I agree... it can't possibly get any worse for the fans anyway.

Anyway, if this requires approval from all 30 teams individually, they can forget it.

Wouldn't that take some of the competitiveness out of it? If there was only one owner, what would make them want to keep certain teams or keep them in their current locations? They could create dynasties on a whim.

Thread title is misleading. Just a proposal by a buyout firm that has proposed a similar offer before. They are banking on the fact that most owners might be trying to bail due to the state of the NHL.. The more profitable franchises will never agree to this...

Then what? Does the buyout firm turn around and sell them?

Sounds like one holding company would control the entire league... The theory I guess is that the franchises wouldn't "compete" against each other and would make more money. Personally, I don't think they are competing in their exisiting state. I mean, what does Nashville do...try to take fans away from Atlanta or something? I'm not sure how they consider it "competing"...

It'll never happen... you think Mike Illitch of the Wings, or Ed Snider of the Flyers would ever agree to this?

My thoughts exactly, there is no way these owners can all come to an agreement about each others worth. Decent idea but no way it flies.

I heard it was EA trying to buy it so they have exclusive rights to the video games. 😉
