all hell breaks loose in Madison, WI

Just got out of a friends place near State Street to find that apparently someone had started a fire on the street, causing the cops to break out the gas. I'm a bit out of it right now, so I can't comment too much, but I applaud the Madison police for being firm but fair (or so it seems right now).

Ah, the lovely smell of tear gas. It's worst the first time. It's certainly not pleasant after that, but it's not as bad.

apparently it wasn't tear gas this other time - some sort of pepper gas now or something
I personally only had a wee bit drift into my eyes - I wasn't there for most of the goings down...
I really don't like this kind of event, especially because it reflects poorly on the UW students, even though they've pretty much shown that most of it occurs from non-students

I had to work till Midnight last night, and didn't want to be near State St. It gets insane. But from what I heard from local news stations, looks like nothing serious went down? Though I could be wrong.

<edit>I suck at linking. Too many forums with too many linking systems</edit>

Heard that they had brought in Stadium lightning this year and had 30 cops on standby on the streets and stuff to try to make it not happen. Oh well. Better luck next year.
