All good with this OC?

Hey again all,

Just a quick question. I'm running a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 mobo with a E6400 C2D (2.13 gHz stock). I OC'd it to 2.8 gHz (350x8), and I'm currently idling typically around 40-43*C (STOCK air cooling). Is this a decent temperature to run at 24/7? Under load, I barely eclipse 50*C. Furthermore, after I get a decent air cooler (Zalman 9500 most likely) is it safe to push this processor to 3.2 gHz? That's basically my goal once I get better cooling, but I won't push it that far until I get that cooling. I just want to know if I'm smooth sailing for what cooling I have right now at 2.8 gHz. Also, my VCore is at 1.392v

Yes, those temps are good, and you may have a nice overclocking chip there.

I would recommend something other than the 9500, though, unless you're dead-set on it. There are better HSFs for the money. As far as safety goes, the question of safety is more related to your vcore than your clock speed. Try not to exceed more than 10% of stock vcore for maximum safety.

Understandably, the wide variation in observed stock vcores for these chips may make calculating your maximum safe vcore a tad difficult. Your best bet is to find the highest stock vcore available for E6400s and base your calculation on that.

wow. iunno ElNiNoSt0rM that seems a bit high for a decent overclock. what ram are you running and did you bump the Vdimm instead of the Vcore. i'm running my E6300 at 2.8Ghz. 400x7. and its at stock Vcore and 2.1Vdimm.. my idle 37-40 and load is about 48-51. also

zalmans are crazily overpriced IMHO. best if you get something like the Ultra120 or Ninja Scythe.
