This is good news :) Though I'm still disgusted with how nV handled the nv40 pvp issue, it seems H.264 content will be much more prevalent than WMV HD. So provided nv40 does indeed hardware accelerate the decode significantly, and not having personally expected it to have that support in the first place, it is pleasently surprising to me.

The fact that even the low end 6 series will do 720p is nice to hear too. HTPC users should be stoked IMO.

Oh a question: Does anyone think the IGP and 6200 will still be able to help hardware decode 1080p but just with higher CPU overhead? or will a hardware or driver limitation prevent it from assisting that res entirely? Because some acceleration could help reduce the minimum CPU required?

Before getting too disgusted, I'd bear two things in mind.

1) there is almost no content for WMV-HD / H.264 so far, so what exactly have people "missed out" on?

2) ATi has yet to provide r4xx owners with WMV-HD / H.264 HW accelerated playback, yet the fanATics have made a point of harrassing nVidia over the issue. When will ATi provide equivelant support for r4xx owners?
