All external drives?

Has anyone thought about constructing a super small case with just bare essentials and then using only external drives to keep it off your desk? This way you could have minimal amount of desk usage and reduced sound because you could mount it in a wall, a closet or a central air system, as long as it gets adequate cooling.

What I don't understand is why would you need external drives to put the comp in another room or whatever? IMO, if you want a high performance cooling solution and you don't like noise, use water cooling.

my noisy comment was based upon the fact that its easy to put a huge heatsink with a really big load fan and keep things cool
