can someone shed some light on what happened and possible causes?
I recently had 3 ESX servers out of the blue no longer see the SAN. All VMs were labeled as Unknown (Inaccessible). Only the local drive showed up as a data store and trying to Add Storage showed no detection of the SAN.
The ESX servers could be remoted into and the SAN could be pinged.
First tried powering down and powering up the SAN but that did not resolve the issue, then tried rebooting an ESX server and after reboot, the ESX server was communicating with the SAN and all VMs were labeled properly. Rebooting the other 2 ESX servers produced the same results.
So can someone shed some light on what happened and possible causes?
Also, is there a way to get the ESX servers to detect the SAN without rebooting them?
If it helps, ESX version is 4, SAN is EMC AX4-5i, and physical servers are Dell PowerEdge 2970s.
Thanks for any help.
