Unless you run a ratio that makes your RAM faster than the fsb. These ratios are why MBs advertise "800," because it does run them at DDR2-800 with a divider/ratio.

Have a month until I can build a system. Should I pull the trigger now since prices at ZZF are very reasonable or will prices on the conroe cpus drop a bit in a month?

Hey, that 6300 is only 16.00 over MSRP!!!! Not bad ZZF. Not bad at all considering all the gougers out there.
The prices you are thinking of are NOT MSRP. That's a huge misconception by people. The prices you see on Intel's site (and quoted elsewhere) are for minimum 1000 unit orders of OEM tray processors, directly from Intel.
Just for reference, my wholesale COST on these chips is more than what people say the MSRP should be.
WRONG! They are msrp. Many many news site listed those prices at msrp. Believe it nor not, Intel does not publish how much their charge their retailers for chips, why would they? They charge different retailers different prices.... There are also trade discounts, consignment, etc. Theres a lot more too it than just buying a 10000.
If your wholesale costs are more than the "msrp", you're getting screwed. You're probably ordering from some distrubutor who is ripping you off.

I ordered the E6300 from ZZF for $219 + $1.99 2day Fedx to put into an ASRock 775Dual-VSTA with my old AGP 8x ATI AIW 9800 Pro.

Quite the opposite, I'd say.
With the 9800P he'd be playing <1280x960, where the CPU plays a larger role in framerate

I'm assuming he plays recent games, hence <1280x960... And he couldn't have gone wrong with either.
C2D is a fine choice, $220 isn't so bad (though he overpayed). 4200/4600+ class performance.

Maybe at vendors that price gouge. Others won't and will sell more units. Not to mention those of us with some patience will wait until prices become reasonable again.
