All cars to be tracked entering Lower Manhattan via license plates

StageLeft

No Lifer
Link

This is just the beginning. It will expand at a rapid pace. England is already leading the way in Orwellian-like tracking of citizenry via technology and NY city appears eager to play along, too.

This is, of course, going to expand in time. It will be first cities with high crime and eventually get onto major roads throughout the US because it will have a significant impact on crime solving. I imagine in some case it will make or break an alibi, for example. A key question in most crimes is, who was where when and this will help clean up the haze.

EDIT: DC, too

It takes a screw driver and 10 minutes to change it with a fake plate. So who is zooming who ?

That makes you an idiot. Probably not the only thing, but it's all I have to go on. It's enough.

He who gives up a little liberty in the name of security deserves neither.

Have you seen how many rights you have given up to fight the terrorist. It's just an excuse for the government to come into my house with no reason.

would it be illegal to install devices to obscure video cameras from recording your license plate?

Mythbusters did a show on that. Everything failed except going VERY fast.

For less than a grand you can install flip away plates with a touch of the button from the cockpit. beat that.

Criminal behavior can exist only in anonymity.

Nonsense. The best criminals commit their crimes openly.

Exactly. Right in the blind spot in our field of vision. We see what we expect to see and all else is hidden.

Ohh boy... Looks like I'm going to fly off the handle, again. So wait, how the fuck does this help at all? Did the "evul tururests" fly TRUCKS into the twin towers? NO?? So are you going to check the license plate of each 747, too? You pigs could've shot the damn planes down, but you had our air-defense denied the right to scramble in some of the most protected airspace on the planet. Land vehicles have nothing to do with it. Dumb-shit chicken-marching bastards, you think we can't see right through you?! This is classic despot bullshit. The war on terror should've started by hanging the people in office on 9-12-2001 for letting the shit happen in the first place.

Mythbusters could also be bullshiting so the whole population thinks this.

Ah yes, good old liberal New York.

Save us Democrats! Save us from those evil Republicans!

Check your tongue, please. There is nothing socially liberal about having your every movement tracked. It's the exact opposite.

If someone tells you they support this kind of shit surveillance, they're not liberal, they're cowardly authoritarian supporters.

Anyway, democrats and republicans are the same.
